DFKU #380

It's been a day. A pretty hard day, to be honest. I've worked for 13 hours, and I'm way too tired to write, but I'm going to try anyway.

To have one openly racist political party in your country and see them win the elections with nearly 25% of the votes.. a true disillusionment. I consider myself lucky to be surrounded by kind people. People who choose understanding differences and inclusiveness over focusing on what makes them miserable and blaming other (already struggling) people for it.

As a bike messenger you meet people from all layers of society. Even though I have always been aware of this, today it felt different. I have delivered boxes of warm pastries to people celebrating a 'win'. I also delivered medication to people who, according to the 'winners', don't deserve to be here.

I smiled at both of them, equally enthusiastic, equally reciprocated. But they wouldn't smile at each other if you put them in the same room.

The biggest thing this job has taught me is that kindness is usually rewarded with kindness. So I will continue to greet EVERYONE with a smile, hopefully it will inspire them to do the same.
