- "An ultra, with that bike? Are you sure?"
- "Yes, I'm sure."

Ever since I said I was going to do RatN on my cargobike, people have actively tried to convince me to take a different bike. Telling me: "You will never make it" and "You're making it way too difficult for yourself". Also the amount of condescending comments I've had during my preparations and training rides are not insignificant.
So here's my counter-question for that 'attitude': Why sign up for something difficult and then, in all the choices that follow, choose to make it the easiest (affordable for you)? Don't get me wrong, I don't mean you should suddenly start making things as difficult for yourself as you possibly can, but why not just choose something that makes you happy? Or something that makes the challenge more 'you'? Of course it's fair to question my choice of bike, but think it's only fair to question the 'easy choices' too.
I'm not saying I think everybody should be doing ultra races on cargo bikes. I'm just saying I think people should choose what they want to choose. (Bring that 460gr massage gun to save your neck!!) Nothing wrong with picking or doing what works for everyone else, as long as it's something that works for you too. It's not necessary to be different. It's just necessary to be you.
You have to spend your whole life with yourself, so the best thing you can do - for yourself - is to get to know yourself and start to make choices AS yourself. 🌻
