RatN test n°1 🎑

'First long distance training on the new bike' or just 'A fucking long testride'. Not sure what to call it, but this ride sure was long and brought up a lot of things.

Because I still hadn't (and haven't) fully recovered from whatever illness I caught 2 weeks ago, I decided not to do anything last weekend, and do a long ride on this Tuesday. But since I also still have a 30 hour work-week ahead of me, doing 300kms straight away wasn't an option. The goal became to be away from home for +/- 12 hours, and cover as much distance as possible in the meantime.

It was all gloomy and grey outside, and with me not being sure about how well I would feel, it would very likely be a not-so-good day. HOWEVER, quite the opposite turned out to be true! Yes, it was rough and having more than 5 minutes of sunshine would have welcomely lightened the mood. But the information I can gather from this ride to take with me in prepping for Race around the Netherlands, is actually something I really needed.

TODAY'S LESSONS:
✨️ Get a shorter stem or I will NOT have a neck by the end of April.
✨️ If I want to aim for 300kms a day, cycling between 05:00-20:00 or 06:00-21:00 should be enough, and would actually leave me with a nice sleeping schedule.
✨️ No sitting down during breaks, because it slows me down immensely.
✨️ Put (non-candy) food in an easy to reach place on my front rack so I can grab it when waiting for e.g. a traffic light. Minor, but saves time and maybe leads to taking fewer breaks.
✨️ If I'm so tired and all my brain can do is whine about it; pick a song I like to sing along to, put it on repeat and go full karaoke on the bike. Singing apparently is a very good way to distract yourself and it brings up new (happy) energy!!
